Jezebel or Obadiah

Now the famine was severe in Samaria, 3and Ahab had summoned Obadiah, his palace administrator. (Obadiah was a devout believer in the Lord. 4While Jezebel was killing off the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food and water.)–1 Kings 18

  1. Israel’s Queen Jezebel was a demon-worshiper.
  2. She therefore went and killed prophets who served Yahweh.
  3. A key politician, Obadiah, was a worshiper of Yahweh.
  4. He therefore went and protected prophets who served Yahweh.
  5. Their allegiances influenced their actions.
  6. I look back at a time in my life in my younger years, when I claimed to follow Jesus, but didn’t. That was hypocrisy. I am grateful for the different life I now live that is different. God has done a great work in me, and I am no longer the man I once was.
  7. But how about you? Are you more like Jezebel or like Obadiah? Does your allegiance to God inform the stances you take in our society or what you find most important? Could a person see your allegiance to God by the things you say and do?–JMB
