Ministry of Generosity

10He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 12For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.–2 Corinthians 9

  1. Paul was encouraging generous giving among the Corinthians in all their prosperity. Let’s unpack this in 3 points.
  2. God supplies your every need. He is the one who provides even for your ability to work and provide.
  3. I see this as my body sometimes betrays me in my MS with weakness and exhaustion. God gives me the strength and endurance I need each day.
  4. God supplies your ability to be generous with others. I have a friend who meets me for coffee each week, and he insists on paying for it. He even buys me a coffee to take with me. That is so kind of him. I have another friend that I always buy his and my coffee. I insist. Be generous.
  5. The end result of that generosity is thanksgiving towards the God who ultimately provides. God has equipped you to be a blessing to another he has brought your way.
  6. This requires you to be attentive to opportunities and trusting in God. I don’t know what that looks like in your life regarding things. But I can see a generous attitude in another person.
  7. Generosity shows up first in time that is spent and care that is shown well before it ever gets to money or things. A person who has encountered you should be thanking God. That is the goal of generosity.–JMB
