6Do not add to his [God’s] words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.–Proverbs 30
- Beware the trap of leaning on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). You may be really smart and your thoughts about Scripture may be indeed highly nuanced.
- But your commentary on the Bible is not more important than the actual Bible.
- Some people add their thoughts to Scripture and say things like, “This is what God really meant.”
- Others subtract parts of the Bible they don’t like and say, “We don’t have to read this section.”
- Just understand that every historical cult has started by either adding to or subtracting from the Bible.
- Either a person trusts God and the Bible or they don’t. Changing God’s Word will only lead to a rebuke from the very God you claim to serve. Not a good thing.
- So when you read the Bible, don’t make your understanding of it the same importance as the Bible, itself. I blog every day, so I must also take this seriously. My thoughts on Scripture are absolutely not as important as Scripture.–JMB
