10In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years. 11He also did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin, but he walked in them.–2 Kings 13
- Jehoash is a variation or alternate spelling of the name Joash.
- So at the same time, a Joash/Jehoash was on the throne in both Israel and Judah.
- However, the one up in Israel was evil and followed the sinful legacy of the kings before him.
- And the Joash down in Judah honored God and sought to live righteously according to God’s standards.
- Both men were kings. They were most likely wealthy, powerful, and with every advantage in life.
- Yet the heart of one was driven to selfishness and the heart of the other was motivated to please God.
