Jeroboam and Jonah

23In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, began to reign in Samaria, and he reigned forty-one years. 24And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin.25He restored the border of Israel from Lebo-hamath as far as the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the LORD, the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher.–2 Kings 14

  1. The original Jeroboam was the gold standard of evil regarding the kings of Israel.
  2. The good kings are linked to another standard, David.
  3. Here is another Jeroboam. And according to God, this Jeroboam also did evil.
  4. We do get a moment from a famous prophet here, though.
  5. Evidently Jonah had a ministry during this time. He had more to do than his famous trip to Nineveh.
  6. A border was restored. This would have brought protection for Israel. This meant that God cared about His people even as they rejected Him.
  7. How do you treat God and the things of God? How has He shown you grace even though you never deserved it?–JMB
