1. Another set of genealogies.
2. The purpose here seems to list out the sons of King David and his successor, Solomon.
3. It would have been important to keep track of royal lineage.
4. Some people do that today with the royal lineage of England. Who is next in line for the throne, etc.
5. The royal family in David’s day was a blended one full of many half-siblings.
6. One doesn’t find many devotional moments in a genealogy unless you investigate the names you recognize and read more about them. 2 Samuel would be a good start for a resource that describes David’s family.
7. God cared enough to list these names. But each of these names is also a story. God cares about your story, as well. You are not just a name lost in a list of thousands.–JMB
