Saul and Jonathan

33Ner was the father of Kish, Kish of Saul, Saul of Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab and Eshbaal; 34and the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal; and Merib-baal was the father of Micah.–1 Chronicles 8

  1. Today’s genealogy focuses on the family line of Saul, the first king of Israel. As usual, I am highlighting a couple of names and remembering stories.
  2. Saul’s story is played out in the book of 1 Samuel, starting in chapter 9.
  3. Saul is most known for his jealousy and hatred of David, and he spent a good portion of his rule trying to kill David.
  4. Saul was clearly rejected by God and David chosen by God.
  5. Saul’s son, Jonathan, was David’s best friend.
  6. You can read about their friendship in 1 Samuel 18-20.
  7. Saul was a bad king, but raised a good son. Think about your story. Godly and biblical influence and investment matter with the people God brings into your life.–JMB

    1. Evidently, he is there. Listed by the chronicler by an alternate name, Merib-Baal.
