Wartime, Shepherd King

14So David reigned over all Israel, and he administered justice and equity to all his people. 15And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 16and Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests; and Shavsha was secretary; 17and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were the chief officials in the service of the king.–1 Chronicles 18

  1. This chapter chronicled David’s many wars and victories.
  2. Think of David like a shepherd protecting his flock from predators and enabling them to lie down peacefully in green pasture (Psalm 23:2).
  3. His reign is described as a blessing to his people.
  4. I included the rest of the names here to give you a practice pronouncing them.
  5. My trick is to pronounce every vowel, though ironically, the original Hebrew texts contains no vowels!
  6. Peace and order come at a cost. David had to subdue many enemy armies.
  7. Peace in your situation may mean having a tough conversation or getting help and accountability regarding a sin issue you face.–JMB
