10When Joab saw that the battle was set against him both in front and in the rear, he chose some of the best men of Israel and arrayed them against the Syrians. 11The rest of his men he put in the charge of Abishai his brother, and they were arrayed against the Ammonites. 12And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will help you. 13Be strong, and let us use our strength for our people and for the cities of our God, and may the LORD do what seems good to him.”–1 Chronicles 19
- Both the Syrians and the Ammonites were attacking Israel.
- David’s generals Joab and Abishai split of the army to take on the duel forces.
- Joab had a general plan to face the invasion that made sense to him.
- Most likely either he or his brother Abishai would either need help from the other or would depend upon God to provide the victories.
- Therefore his command was be be strong, to sacrifice for the people and their cities.
- The prayer was that God would simply accomplish His will.
- We pray similar prayers when faced with job or medical uncertainties. We will trust God to accomplish His will, and until then we honor Him with our choices.–JMB
