God Pays Attention

8You have kept count of my tossings;
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your book?–Psalm 56

  1. David wrote this psalm when he had been seized by the Philistines.
  2. Remember, he once killed their most famous giant, Goliath.
  3. So David spent a lot of time tossing back and forth in his sleep and had shed many tears.
  4. David here describes the God who keeps count of such things. Who somehow stores tears in His bottle. Our troubles are recorded in God’s book!
  5. Parents sometimes store locks of baby hair or a first lost baby tooth. A box or twenty might have baby clothes or toys in it. At the minimum, pictures are treasured.
  6. David pictures a God who loves, cares, and takes notice even in our most helpless moments.
  7. So what do you do with that information? David wanted to pray all the more. Do you trust God with your most difficult situations? As you toss and cry, do you know that God is paying attention?–JMB
