27After this he [Jesus] went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him, “Follow me.” 28And leaving everything, he rose and followed him. 29And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. –Luke 5
- The tax collectors were seen as ethnic traitors working against their people and instead for the hated Romans.
- Not whom the crowd might have expected an influential rabbi to choose as a disciple!
- Yet, Jesus intentionally went out to Levi’s booth.
- Jesus calls the “worst of sinners” to follow Him.
- Levi immediately ran after the opportunity.
- He even gathered all his tax collector friends and threw a dinner party to introduce them to Jesus!
- Levi was given a new story, a new identity, and a new way of life. This Easter, live with that attitude and perspective.–JMB
