27“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,28bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.—Luke 6
- The natural response to enemies is justified hatred.
- People therefore give themselves excuses to hate others.
- Yet, the biblical response to selfishness towards you is not further selfishness towards them.
- Love should therefore exist in the most rotten of relationships and broken marriages.
- That simple building block of basic grace towards the undeserving provides hope for relationship improvement.
- Biblically speaking you are not allowed to hate anyone. Not even those who treat you worst!
- This is because you are instead spending your time showing grace to them by doing good to the ones who curse you and praying for the ones who abuse you. Nobody is excusing or condoning any evil done to you. But you are either going to have a heart that nurtures bitter revenge or you are going to show grace.—JMB
