Rejoice and Be Glad

24This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.–Psalm 118

My perspective each day is challenged by this verse. Today is God’s day. He made it. It belongs to Him. Today’s purpose is ultimately found in giving God glory and longing for His will to be done in and through my life.

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

Do you recall that famous Jewish folk song Hava Nagila? Well the word for ‘let us rejoice’ is nagilah. It actually means ‘we will rejoice.’

To be glad is to be content, satisfied. God has made this new day. I am responding with satisfaction in God. He is enough. What He has provided is enough. I rejoice in the God who cares for me and provides for each new day.

If you ever feel like you are lacking in purpose or meaning, then simply use this verse as the direction for your day. Respond with joy and gladness to your day. The opposite of those would be bitterness and jealousy, frustration and envy, dissatisfaction and grumbling. I know my choice. How about you?–JMB

  1. I thought the reading today was Psalm 112-113, although I’m probably in need of this Psalm too. 🙂

I still remember singing this when I was little…
    “This is the day
    this is the day
    that the Lord has made
    that the Lord has made
    we will rejoice
    we will rejoice
    and be glad in it
and be glad in it …”

  2. i also remember:

this is the day that the Lord has made
    not like tomorrow or yesterday
He made today in a special way
so let’s all sing and be glad

  4. Yesterday I read using the church website as a guide instead of my phone.
I just realized that the church website has a slightly different reading plan than what is on the app.

The OT reading plan is off by a few psalms. (Not sure if they know this, or if it’s just for this month.) I should have realized that… but I’ve been a bit overwhelmed lately. 😔
