Jesus’ New Command

34“A new command I [Jesus] give you [Peter and crew]: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”–John 13

  1. In this context, Jesus was talking to Peter and the original apostles.
  2. Jesus commanded them to agape [from Greek] one another.
  3. Everyone else would recognize this type of agape love and link it to Jesus.
  4. Every Christian today would eventually come from the ministry of the apostles (including later apostle, Paul).
  5. So we can apply these verses to ourselves, as well. It’s always good to follow commands of Jesus!
  6. Jesus wanted everyone else to know that the Savior we follow impacts how we live and treat other Christians. Maybe that love is what they are missing in their life? Maybe they are looking for that kind of brotherhood and sisterhood that we get to model. Maybe they crave the identity, purpose that we display? The love, peace, joy, and hope.
  7. How do you show love to other Christians? Do you mimic the love that Jesus has shown you in the way you love others?–JMB

Isn’t it important how we live and treat others, period? Especially how we treat the least of these…? Maybe you were implying that with your final question.

Wishing all my actions modeled this .. The past few years have been especially challenging. 😦

    1. Jesus definitely cares about how we treat others. Love your enemies. Love your neighbors. But the world will recognize how we treat each other as Christians. So we start there. Good to hear from you, Sandy. Have you read my book?
