10My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them.–Proverbs 1
…but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. (James 1:14-15)
- I remember my journey with addictive behavior began when I saw “cooler” older students in high school participating in it.
- I wanted to belong and yet my own sinful desire was at work within me, as the book of James (above) describes.
- The journey with that particular sin struggle would impact the next 17 years of my life.
- I now celebrate many years of sobriety, but I first had to take my sin seriously.
- I had to own what I could own, get help, and then pursue biblical accountability.
- That is your story too, my friends. Whether you are at rock-bottom as I once was, or you are facing temptation many years into the journey, you still must take this matter seriously.
- That enticement is either going to come from others or from within yourself, or even from both. Please take your sin seriously.–JMB
