Labor in the Harvest

1After this the Lord [Jesus] appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 3Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.–Luke 10

  1. Jesus said this to the 72 that He appointed.
  2. But the principles still apply to us, as we are also followers of Jesus.
  3. The harvest is plentiful. We don’t have to do any of the work planting or growing. Just harvesting. Anyone that accepts the Gospel has already been led to that point by God.
  4. The laborers are few. Every follower of Jesus should be about the Gospel. God bring people into your life who need to hear your story, who need to hear about Jesus. This is the one thing we will no longer do in Heaven–share the Gospel. We labor for this now!
  5. Pray. Yes, pray for your time harvesting and for more harvesters and for their time harvesting. Make this an earnest prayer, as Jesus commands.
  6. Jesus does the sending. He has sent each one of us, as well. Even as sheep amongst wolves. Lambs, even. But remember, Jesus is still the Good Shepherd. The only way a shepherd would send lambs among wolves is if he was right there with them and protecting them.
  7. Take that to heart. Jesus is with us in a way that He was not with the 72. Jesus sent them out to minister. Jesus is with us today. Immanuel. So we faithfully pray and harvest.–JMB
