The Prayer Jesus Taught

2And he [Jesus] said to them, “When you pray, say:

“Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
3Give us each day our daily bread,
4and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.”

Here’s what this prayer teaches me:

  1. My name or reputation is not most important.
  2. My plan is not most important.
  3. My life is to be about God and longing for His plan, submitting to His rule.
  4. I need to daily depend upon God.
  5. I need to be a forgiver, a giver of grace, just as I need to be a confessor and a repenter regarding my own sins.
  6. I need to trust God in moments of temptation, weakness, worry, insecurity, and doubt. He is at work providing for me and leading me.
  7. This is me. How about you?–JMB
