Give Me Now Wisdom

10Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?”–2 Chronicles 1

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)

  1. This is the famous story where God allowed King Solomon to ask for anything.
  2. Solomon chose the one attribute that would help him govern the people most.
  3. Solomon later linked that attribute to the fear of the Lord.
  4. Thus in his answer to God’s offer, Solomon showed the humble and respectful attitude required of those who would receive such things.
  5. Anyone who truly seeks wisdom must come to grips with the reality of God and his omniscience.
  6. A healthy fear maintains perspective with the divine. Any wisdom I receive is therefore part of God’s providential plan for me. I am to remain humble and grateful and depend upon God as I live out the wise choices enabled by Him.
  7. When you link 2 Chronicles with Proverbs, the famous story actually becomes deep and philosophical. What a fun little journey this provided today. Thanks for reading with me, friends.–JMB
