10Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?”–2 Chronicles 1
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)
- This is the famous story where God allowed King Solomon to ask for anything.
- Solomon chose the one attribute that would help him govern the people most.
- Solomon later linked that attribute to the fear of the Lord.
- Thus in his answer to God’s offer, Solomon showed the humble and respectful attitude required of those who would receive such things.
- Anyone who truly seeks wisdom must come to grips with the reality of God and his omniscience.
- A healthy fear maintains perspective with the divine. Any wisdom I receive is therefore part of God’s providential plan for me. I am to remain humble and grateful and depend upon God as I live out the wise choices enabled by Him.
- When you link 2 Chronicles with Proverbs, the famous story actually becomes deep and philosophical. What a fun little journey this provided today. Thanks for reading with me, friends.–JMB
