12Then Solomon offered up burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of the LORD that he had built before the vestibule, 13as the duty of each day required, offering according to the commandment of Moses for the Sabbaths, the new moons, and the three annual feasts—the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Booths.–2 Chronicles 8
- The Temple was intended for sacrificial worship.
- Solomon thus reinstated the usual worship calendar.
- These consisted of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual sacrifices.
- The annual calendar is still followed by many orthodox and observant Jewish people today.
- The animal sacrifices or burnt offerings, in the absence of a temple, have been replaced by good works, charitable giving, repentance and daily prayers.
- In the Ancient Jewish world, worship was the schedule of life.
- Think of your day, week, month, and year. How does the worship of God affect them?–JMB
