8Were not the Ethiopians and the Libyans a huge army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the LORD, he gave them into your hand. 9For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him. You have done foolishly in this, for from now on you will have wars.”10Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in the stocks in prison, for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Asa inflicted cruelties upon some of the people at the same time.–2 Chronicles 16
- Asa previously relied on God for help.
- This time, Asa relied on his own political skill.
- God noticed, and informed Asa that the king was foolish for doing so.
- Asa responded to the critique with selfishness and rage. Bad Asa.
- Our text today informs that God is not some uncaring being up in a heavenly tower somewhere.
- He is active, involved, caring, and observing people’s hearts. This means that God not only cares about the words you say, the things you do, and the attitudes you have, but also your thoughts, feelings, and motivations!
- This is a heart check moment again. Do you more rely on God or upon yourself? Would God describe your pursuits as blameless or foolish?–JMB
