A Prophet of the LORD

6But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not here another prophet of the LORD of whom we may inquire?”–2 Chronicles 18

Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left a prophet of the LORD, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men” (1 Kings 18:22).

  1. Jehoshaphat had allied with Ahab in Israel. Not the brightest move.
  2. And Ahab suckered Jehoshaphat into going to war.
  3. He did this through bribery and 400 prophets giving a favorable message. Maybe these were part of the 450 Baal prophets from the Elijah story?
  4. But Jehoshaphat wanted to hear from Yahweh. Only His Word would do.
  5. We have no shortage of voices and opinions in our day.
  6. Many of whom will tell you exactly what you want to hear.
  7. Yet, do you go to the Bible for counsel with your matters of faith and practice? Do you seek the Word of God and a mentor who can help you apply the Bible to your situation?–JMB
