But the People

2And he [King Jotham] did what was right in the eyes of the LORD according to all that his father Uzziah had done, except he did not enter the temple of the LORD. But the people still followed corrupt practices.–2 Chronicles 27

  1. Jotham was a good king.
  2. He learned from his father’s good example.
  3. He also learned from his father’s bad example.
  4. But his public influence was unable to bring change with the people.
  5. The king was able to control himself, but not his people.
  6. Life is like that. A person can only control his or her own responses. Other people will outwardly or inwardly make their own choices. Therefore the best relationship boundaries are placed on oneself for that reason. “You can’t drink alcohol around me,” is better replaced with, “I won’t be around alcohol.”
  7. How is your private life? How is your influence? Jotham set a boundary regarding not making his father’s key mistake in entering the temple. What biblical boundary can you place upon yourself?–JMB
