10The LORD spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they paid no attention. 11Therefore the LORD brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh with hooks and bound him with chains of bronze and brought him to Babylon.
12And when he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. 13He prayed to him, and God was moved by his entreaty and heard his plea and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.–2 Chronicles 33
- Manasseh was a selfish king who cared little about the things of God.
- God used the circumstances of life to humble Manasseh.
- Manasseh responded in humility with repentance.
- God heard his prayer and responded to Manasseh’s faith.
- Manasseh became a different king who sought to honor God.
- In my time of great hypocrisy and sin many years ago, God humbled me. I responded by owning my sin, getting help, and pursuing biblical accountability. I remain grateful for how God brought me back to Him.
- Manasseh serves as an example that even the most morally depraved person can be led to repentance and a new life by God. How has God worked through your story? Have you had a Manasseh moment?–JMB
