He Will Guide You

12“I [Jesus] have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.–John 16

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

  1. The Holy Spirit is given a masculine pronoun in the Greek. The Holy Spirit is not an “It,” but rather a “He.”
  2. His role is to guide Christians into the truth.
  3. He does this through the Bible. The canon of Scripture is closed. Nothing new, but it is sufficient.
  4. This means when we read the Bible, the Holy Spirit goes to work within us guiding us into the truth.
  5. There is submission in the Trinity. The Son submits to the Father’s plan. The Spirit teaches the words of Jesus and glorifies Him.
  6. The Spirit will make known the things of Jesus to us.
  7. We display the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12) and the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5).–JMB

  1. Question, Pastor Joel: theologically, what is the difference between ‘soul’ and ‘spirit’? Is one a stand in for ‘mind’? And if so, how does that contrast with ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’” (Mark 12:29-30, NIV).

Thanks, I appreciate your daily posts.

    1. Soul and spirit are the same. I believe there is a physical part of you and a non physical. I am not convinced by some that differentiate between the soul and spirit. Yes two different words, but used interchangeably. Body and spirit/soul. Mind still describes the non physical thought life.
