Fixed By His Own Authority

6So when they had come together, they [the apostles] asked him [Jesus], “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”–Acts 1

  1. Verse 7 grabbed ahold of me this morning. I also gave you verses 6 and 8.
  2. This was after His resurrection and Jesus was just about to ascend into Heaven.
  3. These was also their final earthly conversation with Jesus. One last chance to ask a question of their Rabbi.
  4. They made it about how to interpret the season they were in and what came next (see verse 6).
  5. Many of us do the same thing when we watch the news and take our emotional responses to God in prayer.
  6. Jesus gave some heavy theology. God the Father’s timeline doesn’t change. It is fixed by Him. Let that be His business. Instead focus on what He expects you to be doing instead of worrying about what comes next (see verse 8).
  7. So as we wait for Jesus to return, we are His witnesses. We live and share our stories for His glory and we live and share the Gospel hope we have received.–JMB
