8They [Ezra and crew] read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.–Nehemiah 8

1. The people hadn’t heard the law read in so long.
2. Ezra made it a priority to red it clearly and then help apply it.
3. This is what we do in biblical counseling.
4. A counselee has an issue regarding their faith or practice.
5. We open the Bible together and they are directed to read key verses or passages.
6. The Holy Spirit works on hearts using the Bible (Hebrews 4:12).
7. Biblical counselors can be great at helping counselees to understand and apply the Bible, but many times, the simple reading of Scripture is what was needed. For far too long, the Bible night have been neglected. Biblical counseling repeats the scene in our Nehemiah text today.–JMB
