1Now the leaders of the people lived in Jerusalem. And the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in Jerusalem the holy city, while nine out of ten remained in the other towns.
2And the people blessed all the men who willingly offered to live in Jerusalem.–Nehemiah 11
- Our nation used to have a military draft in wartime.
- People join the armed forces today voluntarily.
- In Nehemiah’s day, one in ten were drafted to live in the city and some others simply volunteered.
- The analogy probably isn’t off. To live in Jerusalem made you a target of the enemy.
- There is a reason they built the wall first.
- Where have you stepped out of your comfort zones in order to honor God?
- For me, I would say my recovery story. All in recovery must face themselves and get help regarding their sins. I am grateful for the many years of my sobriety, and I know that God has done an amazing work in my life, but those initial steps in my repentance were out of my comfort zone.–JMB
